History of Humanistic Astrology
Taking it back to where it all started. The 1930s, then the 1980s. From New York to New Mexico and back to London.
The Astrology we know and love today across much of the western world derives from a revolution in the purpose and use of astrology that took place in the early 20th century. Most people are not aware of how the psychological astrology many of us consume today came into being, so in this podcast episode, i take us back to learn about one of the founding figures of what we call Humanistic Astrology.
Working in the early 1900s, Dane Rudyhar was a French-born Astrologer who emigrated to the United States where he pursued a career in Music, Art and Philosophy, all three disciplines which informed his astrological practice. His seminal publication “The Astrology of Personality” was first published in 1936 and can be considered the literature seed of the form of personality astrology that is found in popular culture across the internet today.
From Dane Rudyhar to Liz Greene, author, maestra and founder of the Transpersonal movement in the UK, we touch on some of the great founding figures of the 20th century to honour the roots of the Humanistic astrology we consume today.
