New Moon in SAGITTARIUS

12.12.2023

On the 12th December, we welcome in a New Moon in Sagittarius the day before Mercury turns retrograde.

As so many sensitive souls sift their way through the collective grief right now, while also navigating their own personal journey in life, this is a time for moving slowly, for observation and focussing on what is in our control. I say this not only because of the larger energetics of our global frequency right now, but also because with Mercury retrograde until January 1st, and Jupiter almost stationary, as it gets ready to spin direct again on December 31st, things can feel stagnant in the external world. If there are big decisions or forks in the road coming up for you now, this New Moon might make them feel urgent, like they require action from you, however because of Mercury retrograde, the stars would caution against any quick moves! Use this time to go within.

In the western system, this New Moon sits in a square to Neptune, and in the Vedic Nakshatras, Mercury is in the deep Nakshatra of “Moola” which is all about getting to the root of a matter. Moola is a portion of Sagittarius that sits at the Galactic centre", the heart of the Milky Way. This Nakshatra is known for having destructive tendencies, as it is all about removing anything that stands in the way of growth. If your mind starts digging up old fears, or you feel like you are regressing at all in the days following this New Moon, you can put it down to Mercury moving through the knots of Moola. Turn to your grounding rituals and get into the body. For those of you who love Yoga - headstands and inversions do wonders to cool an over active mind.

Wednesday and Thursday, the days following this New Moon are ripe with revelations, as the moon will hit the Mercury in Moola point discussed above.

In vedic astrology, one of the symbols related to this portion of the sky, is an Umbrella, indicative of protection, and being shielded from harm. Despite the fact that there is no fast forward movement with this New Moon, those with determination and a clear focus on a tangible goal that they can take personal steps towards, can find satisfaction and peace amidst the fog.

Sudden leaps or breakthroughs, whether productive or destructive, will come about with the Full Moon in Ardra Nakshatra on December 27th. That Full Moon that awaits us is ruled by Rahu, a feisty point that is currently in Pisces, so ready to transform and purify that which does not serve us. Rahu only just changed signs end of November, to start an 18 month cycle in Pisces, so the Full Moon on December 27th will be the first chance to experience Rahu’s ruthlessness in the area of your own chart ruled by Rahu.
